Our goal at Mountain Advantage is to provide our customers with prompt, educated, first-class workmanship and service with any outdoor project that they desire. We were established in 2003 and have been blessed ever since with the referrals from our customers that weaves a bigger web of work each year. The broad experience and qualifications of our staff and employees allows us to be as diverse as the world we live in. We primarily service the counties of Ashe, Watauga, and Wilkes however we have traveled as far as Wilmington. We believe that a company will only go as far as its employees. Each employee works in the division that they are most suited to work in. That may because of their education; it may be because of their work experience, or both. They are the backbone of Mountain Advantage. We work as a team, not as a hierarchy chain of command in an effort to treat our customers' satisfaction as our number one priority.
Born and raised in Ashe County I attended Jefferson Elementary School, Ashe Central High School, and was part of the first graduating class in 2000 at the new Ashe County High School. Ever since I was little I have had a passion for sports and have participated in organized football, baseball, and basketball for years. After graduating from Ashe County High I continued my sport career by playing baseball at Surry Community College. After completing my two years of education at Surry, I was accepted at North Carolina State University in the 2 year Age. Institute program. While attending N.C. State I was part of the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) that finished 2nd out of approximately 70 universities nationwide in the annual national landscaping competition which was held in Jackson, Mississippi that year. While in Raleigh I completed a summer internship with Greenscape Inc., which is one of the most recognized landscaping companies in central and eastern North Carolina. After graduation from N.C. State I was led back to my roots here in Ashe County to join my brother Marty and Mountain Advantage Tree and Landscape. In February 2008 I successfully completed my certification for paver installer and hopefully in July 2008 finish the last half of the test to become a NC Landscape Contractor. In March 2004 I was happily married to my beautiful wife Amanda Edwards Peters. In December 2005 we gave birth to our first beautiful and adoring baby boy, Mathew Peters, and in October 2007 was blessed with our second, healthy baby boy Bryce Grayson Peters. We now currently reside in West Jefferson.
I was born here in Ashe County where I attended Jefferson Elementary and graduated from Ashe Central High School in 1998. I was always occupied with playing whatever sport was in season all through my childhood and high school years. After one year at Lenoir Rhyne College playing baseball, working in Florida on one of the top 5 dairy farms in the United States, and attending Appalachian State University for one semester, I found my home at North Carolina State University.
While pursuing a Bachelors of Science Degree in Horticulture, I joined a national organization known as the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA). This allowed me to participate with approximately 30 other students at N.C. State that were also pursuing a horticultural degree. We designed and installed actual landscaping jobs in Raleigh to raise money to pay for our transportation, food, and hotel for our annual landscaping competition. We competed against 65-70 top universities in the nation in 28 different events which included irrigation, tree climbing, paver installations, landscape design, and plant identification to name a few of the categories. In my three years of competition in ALCA we traveled to Colorado where we finished 6th in the nation, Illinois where we finished 4th in the nation, and Mississippi where we finished 2nd the highest any team at N.C. State University has ever finished. Also, while in Raleigh I completed a 12 week summer internship with one of the leading companies in the tree industry, Bartlett Tree Experts.
In my spare time while in high school I began working in Christmas trees for Ronnie Lawrence when I was 13. I worked for Ronnie part time all through college and then full time after completing college. He allowed me to start Mountain Advantage Tree and Landscape as a secondary form of income, being a business partner of mine in the beginning. We still turn to Ronnie for expert advice. After many great experiences, and seeing a lot of different places I knew Ashe County was the place I wanted to be. I currently share a home in Jefferson with my lovely wife, Heather Barker Peters.
I was born and raised in Lansing, NC in Ashe County. I attended Lansing Elementary School and graduated from Northwest Ashe High School in 1997. While in high school I participated in football, wrestling, baseball and golf. While in high school I began working at Jefferson Landing Golf Club in 1995. I continued to work at Jefferson Landing part time while attending Wilkes Community College and full time after my graduation from Wilkes. While working at the golf course I realized I wanted to further my education in the field of turf grass management so I applied to North Carolina State University in Raleigh. During my time at Jefferson Landing was where I met Matt Peters when he took a job with the maintenance division one summer.
While in my second semester at N.C. State I moved into an apartment with Marty Peters. It was at this time that I joined FARMHOUSE fraternity. This organization was basically and Agricultural and Engineering fraternity that had been on campus for about 50 years. While in the fraternity I held various leadership offices including vice president. I was proud to be a part of the fraternity in fall 2005 when it was awarded the Caldwell Cup, which is awarded yearly to the best fraternity on Campus based on Academics, Athletics and Community Service. Also in the fall of 2005 I was presented the D. Howard Doane award by FARMHOUSE fraternity. This is an international award presented by the fraternity members and the alumni association to an active member based on his leadership during his time at North Carolina State University. While attending NCSU I worked with Southern Water Gardens INC. from Wake Forest, NC. This was an interesting job for me where I learned about the design, installation and maintenance of various types of water features during my 3+ years with the company.
In 2006 I took the spring semester off not knowing what I wanted to do after graduation. At this time I worked with Sloop Landscape Construction in Mount Ulla, NC before coming to work for Mountain Advantage for about 4 months. I then returned to Raleigh to work with Southern Water Gardens and finish my degree at NCSU in the fall of 2006.
In December 2006 I graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy Turf grass Concentration. I moved back to my roots and joined my friends at Mountain Advantage, LLC. I reside in Lansing, NC.
